Carlisle, Pennsylvania is located at the western edge of the Harrisburg Metropolitan Area. The mainly agricultural region is also home to the Pennsylvania state legislature. Carlisle and the greater Harrisburg area also boasts several major tourist attractions, including the Carlisle fairgrounds which host the largest car, truck and motorcycle collector events in the country and the Pennsylvania Farm Show, the largest agricultural exhibition of its kind in the nation. Dickinson College and the Penn State Dickinson School of Law are also located in Carlisle.
Carlisle is the site of the US Army War College. This facility, the oldest US Military Installation, is a research and leadership institute that prepares senior military officials for strategic leadership positions. The school is also provides training to civilians from the Pentagon, National Security Agency and the State Department. The War College also houses the Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute (PKSOI) and the PKSOI Stability Operations Lessons Learned Information Management System (SOLLIMS).
